The SMS is compatible with both Brightspace and Moodle, but the SMS can only be attached to a single LMS at one time. Districts have two migration paths that they can use when transitioning from Moodle to Brightspace:

The districts that wish to run Moodle and Brightspace simultaneously have achieved this buy purchasing a new SMS hosting plan from TSR for their Brightspace instance. You get a completely separate SMS, with a separate registration portal and staff login URL, that is attached to Brightspace instead of Moodle. When the district is done with Moodle, they wind down their previous SMS and / or Moodle hosting plan.

You can instead use your existing SMS hosting plan and simply switch it over from Moodle to Brightspace. This takes a short bit of support time but we would work with you to coordinate this. However, this results in a complete reset of your SMS -- all information is deleted as part of this process. You would be able to export any appropriate data from your SMS prior to this using the SMS export system.

You can cancel your Moodle (or SMS) hosting with us by providing sixty days notice prior to your contract renewal date. When your hosting contract terminates, we delete any data that we are hosting on your behalf, so districts have sometimes chosen to retain their hosting for an additional period for archival purposes.

Alternatively, prior to the end of your hosting period we can transfer you an export of your data. This requires some support time from our staff and this requires technical setup on your district side to receive the transfer (as it is large); the data itself would not be readable until reinstalled into a new Moodle environment, but would contain all of your data needed to restart your Moodle environment elsewhere.
