The MyEdBC linking feature is an optional synchronization tool between a student's demographic information in MyEdBC and their SMS record. Once you have linked a student's SMS record to a MyEdBC record, any changes made in their demographic information in MyEdBC will be copied into the corresponding SMS record.

This feature requires support from your district technicians. Your district technicians must set up and maintain a programmatic link between MyEdBC and our secure servers. Our support can help you with this, but not every district has the technical resources to maintain this. For technical details, see Setting up MyEdBC Integration

If you have this feature enabled, once you have Verified ID for a student you will see the button replaced with a new button that says "Link MyEdBC":

Clicking on the link will bring up a list of MyEdBC records to choose from. By default, the system will attempt to find you recommended matches based on the SMS record's name, gender, age, birthdate, PEN, and / or school. However, you can also use search to manually find a record.

To link a student, click on their MyEdBC record and then click "save" at the bottom of panel.

Once a student has been linked, their demographic information becomes locked. This means that you can no longer change their demographic information, such as their phone number, address, or grade, from within SMS. For linked students, all demographic changes should be made from within MyEdBC instead. All other SMS functionality is retained, but now you'll no longer have their MyEdBC demographic data get out of synchronization with their SMS demographic data.

If you don't see the record you are looking for, it may have not yet synced. The MyEdBC synchronization happens every 30 minutes, but most districts only update their exports once per day, so you'll typically see new data in MyEdBC once per day.

Your district's connection to the SMS may have been broken. If the files are no longer being sent to your SMS installation, then it will appear as if there is no new data to process. You can reach out to support at [email protected] if you would like to find out when the last successful upload was for your district.

Some data is synchronizing, but one (or a few) students are not. What might be wrong?
